About Me

I am a writer, a crafter of words. And it still amazes me how simple little letters, scratches of ink, can knit and tangle and groove to make something so flabbergasting as goose bumps appear on the skin.  Or a sigh of hope escape the lips. Or a tear fight like mad to stay put.

I am a lover of words. Stories rock my world. Moments stun me. All the time. Every day, begging to be witnessed and made beautiful and ugly and perfect.

I get asked all the time what I love about writing. And then I get all  Super Coach-y:

“Y’know how y’feel when you’re on the ice in your skates…or in your pink body suit and tights…or leaning over those eighty-eight keys….and y’practice and practice…stretching, reaching… trying your darndest, using all of you and even more…leaning into that invisible realm…what’s it called…Awesome-ness? Y’know, that Thing that seems to feed you and make yer whole body zizz with focus and energy….all to perfect that shot, those splits, one more flawless melody…

And then….then….oh my god, then….you nail it!

Scoooooooooooorrrreeee!

Applause!!!!!

Joy. Like serious Joy with a capital ‘J’.

Well, that’s exactly how I feel when, after much scritching and Hmmmm-ing and perching with my fingers frozen on the keyboard and holding my bladder just a bit longer….three or four or eleven words suddenly land together in the most perfect-est way and the page….the whole page sets ablaze. It pulses. It smiles, full teeth, like the happiest little ape on the planet. And I feel like the gods have just sprinted through me. I feel like I did something so incredibly Me that I just have to stand there for a bit, shaking my head in awe, equal parts smallness and bigness.

So freakin’ happy.

So, um…ya….I really, really like being a writer.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a short drive to the glorious rocky mountains where my soul tends to hang out. My roomies are my eleven-year old daughter, Tylar and my fluffy, wet-nosed companion Kismet. I dig Kreatifyin’ in the Kitchen with a cool jazz sax in the background. Nature ‘n me are total BFF’s and if words like ‘triumvirate’ slide trippingly from your tongue, I am reduced to swooning.

You probably noticed my chapter reading video on the main page, before you clicked here.  Every second day I’m gonna read a chapter from the books! Awesome, eh? So, you could play it at night before you go to bed. Or, if you’re a teacher, you could play it for your class. Or maybe you just want to make it your secret escape at recess. The point is, it’s free and I’m soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited about it!

‘Kay, but wait…just so you know, it’s gonna be pretty candid, so I might make mistakes and curse….no, I won’t curse but I might snort tea out of my nose. Or try to be funny and fail. That sort of thing.
